The challenge

Make women safer. In 16 days.

Every year from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day, the world marks 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence.

This year we’re not just talking about it. Pick a track, work solo or in a team of up to five, and make something real across any of our six pillars of safety. No coding required. It’s free and online.

Four tracks

Pick your way in.

Not everyone builds with code. Each track has its own lead, its own webinar and its own prize.

01 · Tech & tools

Build

Apps, AI tools, websites and safety features. No coding background needed: our webinars show you how to build with AI and no-code tools.

  • A safe-route or check-in app
  • An AI assistant for reporting harassment
  • A browser tool against doxxing
Track lead: announced soon
02 · Media & stories

Tell

Stories change what people believe is normal. Make something people will listen to, watch or share.

  • A podcast episode or mini-series
  • A short video or campaign
  • A zine or photo series
Track lead: announced soon
03 · Community action

Organise

Bring women together offline. Teams organise their own action and share a short safety plan with us before it's featured.

  • A local walk or march
  • A self-defence or digital-safety workshop
  • A support circle
Track lead: announced soon
04 · Knowledge & policy

Guide

Turn what you know into something others can use, ready in time for Human Rights Day.

  • A safety toolkit or checklist
  • A resource map for your city
  • A letter to policymakers
Track lead: announced soon
Speakers

What Are We Teaching Boys? The Community Standard Starts With Us.

AI + EQ: Building Courageous, Accountable Communities. This is a working session, not just a talk. We'll explore the research, take a private self-assessment (no scores shared), experience a live app demonstration, and examine how AI and emotional intelligence can support meaningful solutions. Then we'll turn toward our own build ideas. Using the IAMAR process, we'll slow down, examine the problem worth solving, and imagine what a thoughtful solution could become.

Questions

Good to know.

Anything else? Ask us at the Challenge Q&A on 23 November.

Who can join?

Any woman, trans women included, who is an approved Women Build Safety member. Register, tell us a little about yourself, and our team reviews your application.

What does it cost?

Nothing. The Challenge and all webinars are free.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Three of the four tracks need no tech at all, and in the free build cohort we show you how to build a website and a mobile app with AI and no-code tools.

Can I join on my own?

Yes. Work solo or in a team of up to five. If you'd like teammates, say so at the Challenge Q&A on 23 November and we'll help you find them.

How much time does it take?

As much as you can give. Most people spend a few hours a week, plus the Monday check-ins on 30 November and 7 December.

Is it online?

Yes, everything happens online. Teams in the Organise track run their own local action and share a short safety plan with us first.

What do I present on 10 December?

A short demo or story of what you made: the app, the episode, the action or the toolkit. Every team gets a few minutes in the showcase.

How do I share my progress?

Post about what you're building with #BuildSafe16 on Instagram, LinkedIn or TikTok. We share our favourites throughout the 16 days.

How are winners chosen?

Each track lead picks a track winner, and members vote for a community favourite. Prizes come from our sponsors.

See you on 25 November.

Join now so we can keep you posted and match you with a team. Share your journey with #BuildSafe16.
